Cherries and peaches poached in spiced red wine

Serves 8

  1. 2lb sweet cherries, pitted and halved
  2. 2lb peaches, peeled, pitted and sliced 1/4in thick
  3. 1 cinnamon stick
  4. 4 cloves
  5. 2 cups red wine
  6. 1 cup sugar
  • Combine 1-4. Bring 5-6 to a boil, and simmer for 5 minutes. Pour over fruit and let cool to room temperature. Discard spices and serve.
